Due to strong consumer demand, Otway Pork the delicious, all natural pork, bred free range near the Otway Ranges in South West Victoria, is now available in selected butchers around Sydney.

 

With more people demanding pork that is not only healthy for them but also raised in a welfare friendly way, Otway Pork meets the needs of health and welfare conscious consumers.

 

Otway Pork pigs are bred free range on farms near the Otway Ranges of south-western Victoria in accordance with RSPCA guidelines. Sows are free to roam outdoors where they wallow in mud and bear offspring in keeping with their natural instincts.

 

From birth, the piglets are free to play, forage, socialise and sleep in straw, before being reared in large, straw-lined eco-shelters with ample room for rest and exercise. Here they are protected from predators and sunburn.  Otway Pork pigs enjoy a natural grain-based diet, free of added growth hormones and antibiotics and they can drink clean, fresh water freely.

 

 “Being bred outdoors and reared with plenty of room to move ensures our pigs grow as naturally as possible, resulting in more juicy and tender pork,” Ian Farran says.

 

 “People not only love the juiciness and tenderness of the meat, but they also like the fact Otway Pork is bred free range, is chemical-free and is the first Australian pork to be RSPCA accredited,” says Otway Pork Managing Director, Mr Ian Farran.

 

Otway Pork is a lean source of protein and, with even less fat than skinless chicken breast, select cuts come with the Heart Foundation’s tick of approval, making it a guilt free indulgence to enjoy every week, not just at Christmas.

 

Butchers will offer a full range of Otway Pork cuts including roasts for the festive season.  Ask them how to cook Otway Pork perfectly and they will tell you that it’s best left a little pink in the middle with the juices running pink to clear.  Don’t be tempted to overcook for delicious results and loads of compliments!

 

Only in Victoria until now, Otway Pork plans to expand distribution across Sydney to selected gourmet butchers and independent food stores throughout 2007.
