FEBRUARY, 2005 – GOURMET pork is no longer the province of only restaurant menus, with Victoria’s best tasting, free-range pork now available at your local supermarket.
Otway Pork can be found in the fresh meat section of more than 60 Coles supermarkets across Melbourne, Ballarat and Geelong.
Our premium quality pork is also available at more than 30 independent supermarkets and Otway Pork accredited butchers including Peter G Bouchier in Toorak and David Jones, Lonie’s of Brighton and McAdam’s Meats in Croydon North. Otway Pork Managing Director Ian Farran said the superb flavour was just one of the reasons customers kept coming back for more.
“People not only love the juiciness and tenderness of Otway Pork, but they also like the fact Otway Pork is bred free range, is chemical-free and is the only Australian pork to be RSPCA accredited,” Mr Farran says.
“In fact, many butchers who trial Otway Pork in their stores are so impressed by the quality they choose to make it their only pork product.”
Only female pigs are selected for Otway Pork products, eliminating the risk of boar taint, with the meat also aged to maximise tenderness.
Otway Pork pigs are bred free range on farms near the Otway Ranges of south-western Victoria. Sows are kept outdoors where they wallow in mud and bear offspring in keeping with their natural instincts.
From birth, the piglets are free to play, forage, socialise and sleep in straw, before being reared in large, straw-lined shelters with ample room for rest and exercise. Otway Pork pigs are fed a grain-based diet, free of added growth hormones and antibiotics.
“Being bred outdoors and reared with plenty of room to move ensures our pigs grow as naturally as possible, resulting in more juicy and tender pork products,” Mr Farran says. …/2 Available cuts from Coles include leg steaks, fillets, rump steak, cutlets, leg strips; while accredited Otway butchers have a range of pork cuts, with some specialty butchers also using Otway Pork to create delectable hams and bacon. For a flavour indulgence tonight why not try Lemon Mustard Otway Pork Steak with Apple Sauce, Olive and Thyme Crumbed Otway Pork Schnitzels or perhaps Otway Pork Butterfly Steaks with Eggplant & Pine Nuts.
